Sentiments

The stuff she says that makes me warm and fuzzy all over.

  • Thank you, Mommy.
  • I love you, Mommy.
  • Bless you, Mommy. {when I sneeze}
  • Be careful, Mommy! {when I stand on a chair to reach for something}
  • This is not “baby”, this is Zoe!
  • Mommy, you want some {insert whatever we’re eating here}?
  • I take care of Mommy. {while covering me with a blanket}
  • Mommy, are you okay?

[Note that she says this stuff to Daddy too, but Mommy’s the one recording this so Mommy gets all the love right now. ;]

Who knew a little two-year-old could be so sweet?

Presents!

I know Christmas is about more than just presents, but the gift part is just so much more entertaining through an excited toddler’s eyes.

Zoe had a blast on Christmas Day opening her countless boxes of gifts, like this little piggy bank from Daddy!!

Dear Zoe…

My favorite thing about today was how you insisted that I hold you as we fell asleep tonight. Me pretty much spooning you, and you grabbing my hand, wrapping my arm around your tiny waist and tucking my hand under your body. And doing it again and again each time I removed it.

Here’s our selfie from tonight:

And the photo you made me pose for (with Mickey Mouse ears) and took all by yourself!

Love you,

Emotions

This week we’ve been showered with love…and apologies!

Zoe’s started freely expressing, “I love you, Mommy!” especially right before bed. And often requests a “hud”, “tiss” and a high-five at the same time.

That melts my heart. The other thing that softens this sucker up is her sugary sweet, “Sorry Mommy!” when she does something bad. To date it’s meant immediate forgiveness, but at the rate she’s going, something’s gonna have to give. This kid’s trouble! ;P

It’s not dod, it’s dog!

Another sniff-she’s-growing-up-so-fast moment: my baby learned to pronounce the “g” sound!

Until today, it’s been “doonight” (goodnight) and “doddie” (doggie) and all kinds of awesome mispronunciations. Literally overnight, it’s gone! Waaaahhhh.

She hasn’t caught on to the “k” sound yet though, so I’m gonna cherish that one for a bit longer. Looking forward to a zoo trip to see the “monteys” sometime soon.

What could be happier…

…than hearing your babe wake up singing her favorite tunes?

These are some of Zoe’s current faves:

  • Wheels on the Bus
  • Five Little Monkeys
  • You are My Sunshine
  • Tomorrow (from the movie Annie)
  • Xiao Xiao Niao
  • Ring Around the Rosie
  • C is for Cookie
  • Baa Baa Black Sheep
  • ABC
  • …and a handful of Chinese ones that I unfortunately don’t know!

One of my other fave things right now is watching her interact with her stuffed toys (especially whichever her current favorite Bear Bear is at the moment) in increasingly “sophisticated” ways: feeding, tickling, hugging, diapering, dressing and otherwise lovin’ on them like they’re her little babies. You’re growin’ up so fast, baby!

Addicted to YouTube

YouTube’s been equal parts blessing and curse. Zoe LOVES watching vids of her fave nursery songs on it for endless stretches of time.

And though all the books say to avoid screen time altogether until at least age 2, she’s learned practically all the words to Wheels on the Bus, Old MacDonald, and Five Little Monkeys from it for sure, studying each vid with such deep interest and concentration that I feel way less guilty getting in some laptop time while she watches. 😛

Well, everything in moderation, right? Ha, ya right! As with everything, it’s SO hard to say no when those big sad eyes are pleading for more “yes sir yes sir three bags full”. 😉

Full sentences!

It’s been at least a week or so, but Zoe has started stringing words together to make up full, if short, sentences!

This morning as I tried to rock her back to sleep (or at least to a state where she might try to go back to sleep), she asked, “Beh Beh tsai na li?” (Where is Bear Bear?)

And also, after asking for Dada and I said Dada’s sleeping, she said “Dada sleeping. Home.” which almost made me tear because Dada hasn’t been home since the 30th! Waaaah.

Still signing, too. She also asked for Ahma, and I replied that Ahma’s sleeping. She made the sleeping sign over my face and said “Ahma sleeping. Mommy sleeping.”

Guess I shouldn’t be all that surprised since she’s been singing full songs in both Chinese and English (but mostly Chinese) for a few months now, but still!

And yesterday, “He guo zi.” (Drink fruit juice.) Ha!
